The site hopes to engage and challenge medical students to improve their alcohol assessment and intervention skills, so that future physicians may be better prepared to assist patients with at unhealthy alcohol use and improve the health outcomes of those patients.
The personal, financial, and other costs of at-risk drinking and alcohol use disorders to society are well known, yet tomorrow’s medical students are still unprepared to time-efficiently assess and intervene regarding their patients’ alcohol use. Health professional students who are better prepared to approach the subject of alcohol use may improve patient care as physicians and positively impact patient health, through more effective screening, diagnosis, and treatment of substance abuse.
Clinical Encounters: Alcohol has developed a collection of didactic training modules and interactive patient case experiences to allow medical students to gain the training necessary to meet real-world challenges of patient care, including time-pressure, the need to make assessment and intervention decisions, and experience the effect those decisions have on their patients.
This training is targeted toward students in the health professions.
